Monoflo: A Leader in a Niche Market

A Frederick County partner since 1973, Monoflo International celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2023. What started as a small, family-owned business on Kent Street in Winchester, Virginia, now spans nearly 24 acres in Frederick County, split evenly between its international headquarters on Baker Lane and a second facility in Stonewall Industrial Park. More than 350 employees contribute to this plastics manufacturer’s continued success.

Monoflo designs and manufactures reusable plastic packaging for use in the manufacturing and transportation industries. As more companies commit to reducing their environmental impact, Monoflo leverages state-of-the-art technology to design and develop circular supply chain solutions. Their injection-molded, light-weight products translate to less weight shipped, and longer product life, while maintaining superior quality and durability. By reducing secondary package weight by hundreds of pounds per truckload, Monoflo enables their customers to realize millions of pounds of annual reductions in freight hauled and substantial decreases in overall fuel consumption.

  • When I started at Monoflo, I welcomed the opportunity to learn about manufacturing. Twenty years later, and I am still learning new things and I am a part of the growth and innovation.

Commitment to Sustainability

Aware of the impact of waste plastics on the environment, Monoflo has led the industry in creating a buy-back program for containers that have reached the end of their useful life. The company will purchase older containers and turn the material into useful pellets to keep them out of the waste stream. But before their products reach that point, the company has developed partnerships with third-party businesses that evaluate and repair damaged packaging. They also participate upstream in waste recovery programs, funneling secondary reusable packaging away from landfills, further reducing their dependence on new resin.

Recent Expansions

Monoflo’s expansion extends across North America. However, Frederick County, Virginia, remains the company's main location and headquarters, and they continue to invest in the region. During the 2020 pandemic, Monoflo broke ground on the Imboden production facility at their headquarters. This investment included the addition of five production machines to support increased demand and decreased lead times. At the Stonewall Industrial Park facility, Monoflo recently converted 32,000 sq. ft. of its 150,000 sq. ft. warehouse space into production to house six additional injection molding machines. These expansions increased Monoflo's head count across the board, soaring from 250 into the 300s. The increase in positions ranges from entry level roles through skilled roles in maintenance, tooling, injection mold processing, and engineering.

  • We have a good family culture and I work for a great employer. There is new technology and plenty of room for growth. I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else than here at Monoflo.
